Long-term Expertise in Electrical Engineering

José María ROMERO GORDON, founder of UNDAM, is an electrical engineer with over 26 years' experience in the electrical utilities sector.

His expertise covers power quality, smart grids, substation automation and distributed generation.

As of January 1, 2023 he is chairman of the Spanish Technical Standardisation Committee UNE-CTN 217 (Electrical energy supply systems), mirror of the IEC TC8 and CENELEC TC8X among others.

He is also a member of several international working groups on electricity:

    ● CENELEC TC8 WG01 (Physical characteristics of electrical energy).
    ● CENELEC TC8 WG03 (Requirements for connection of generators to distribution networks).
    ● IEC TC8 WG11 (Power Quality).
    ● IEC TC8 SC8B JWG1 (General Planning, Design, Operation and Control of Microgrids).
    ● IEC SC77A WG2 (Voltage fluctuations and other low-frequency disturbances).
    ● IEC SC77A WG9 (Power Quality measurement methods).
    ● IEC SC77A JWG1 (General Planning, Design, Operation and Control of Microgrids).

He holds several patents on electrical protections devices.

A few years ago, he identified a gap in frequency measurement, which was still mainly focused on synchrophasors. He decided to take a step forward and develop a disruptive method. This also led to an even more innovative method for measuring ROCOF. A European patent was granted in 2025 to protect it, and more recently a PCT was filed.
